Delirium-Debt Collector 1 by Susan Kaye Quinn

Delirium – EPISODE 1 of the Debt Collector serial  – approx. 48 pages

What’s your life worth on the open market?

A debt collector can tell you precisely.

Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He’s just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja’s sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane… until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn’t what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone–a dark pit he’s not sure he’ll be able to climb out of again.

Delirium is approximately 12,000 words or 48 pages, and is one of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. This dark and gritty future-noir is about a world where your life-worth is tabulated on the open market and going into debt risks a lot more than your credit rating.

I really enjoyed Delirium, fast paced, imaginative and the concept is very fascinating. Its kinda of reminded me of the movie “LOOPERS”, just no shooting yourself in your old age.
Lirium is a pretty cool sounding Debt Collector in his long black jacket and jackboots. sounds like a killer right? Wells he’s sort of the grim reaper. In this book 9 Novella) it really only gives you the idea of what it is about, he collects the debt by killing the person but merciless, basically and for a good reason. they are paying their debt so their family doesn’t have one or if they have no family they feel they are settling  their debt so they leave this world with nothing owed.
This isn’t to say it doesn’t take its toll on Lirium, hes all jacked up on a great high when he first takes their life energy. Then he delivers to his empoyer then to collect then to the person who pad for it. he does get to keep 10% of the energy which doesn’t leave him feeling as great as it does when he gets the full thing.
Then he has a ritual he perform after and this its where everything goes wrong for hi for the 1st time ever.
Since its such a short story I’m not going to give you much because it will totally ruin it but I have to say this is a great read for such a short one and it does leave you wanting more.
Lirium is a great character and yes you get fully engrossed in what is going on in the story, in his life.
I really can’t wait to read more of Ms. Quinns books.
This is a 5Satr all the way and I recommend it highly. Plus its such a short read you can sit down and read it in a hour if not less.
Its free on amazon also right now so snatch it up, you have nothing to lose but a few minutes if you don’t like it but I doubt you won’t.
